Insurance > Blue Cross / Blue Shield

Blue Cross / Blue Shield is one of the most commonly held insurance carriers in our area, and naturopathic services are covered by BC/BS with a few exceptions.  Here are some details regarding BC/BS's coverage of our services:

• If you have "Anthem BC/BS" (i.e.: a Connecticut plan), you should be covered.
• If you have a BC/BS plan based in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, it will not cover naturopathic medicine.
• Oddly, if your BC/BS plan is based in MA or RI and it is a regional PPO plan such as the "New England" plan, the "TriState" plan, or the "Healthmate Coast-to-Coast" plan, your visit with us will be covered.  If your primary care physician is located outside the state of Connecticut, a referral from that doctor is required.  We can help you with this.
• If your BC/BS plan is a nationwide PPO, we can accept it.
• The BC/BS Federal Employee plan does not cover naturopathic medicine, no matter what state you live or work in.  Subscriber IDs for this plan begin with the letter R.
• If you have BlueCare Family Plan and are over the age of 21, we cannot accept your insurance.

As you can see, BC/BS coverage can be complicated depending upon what plan you have and in which state that plan is based.  If you still have questions, call us or your insurance carrier.  We often call carriers on behalf of patients, so if you still have questions, let us know.
